Tragic Mulatto

As I was walking to Starbucks this morning, a couple was behind me and I overheard the guy say that Pioneer Sqaure is a sketchy area. Why? Because there are homeless people scattered about? People sitting on the curb rolling their own cigarettes?  It just really annoyed me. I live in Pioneer Square in a goregous apartment building. Totally renovated and contemporary with up to date everything. And yes the building is surrounded by a couple of day centers and missions which is where homeless or less fortunate people hang out..go figure. The never bother me or my boyfriend. They might ask for change on occasion and once you say no if they see you the next day they don’t ask again. They smile say hi or continue to talk to themselves or the monkeys that only they can see. No big deal. A lot of them have mental or drug abuse issues. Does it make them sketchy? No. Down on their luck maybe? Yes. A lot of them are harmless and won’t touch you or anything. And Pioneer Square is an historic area of Downtown Seattle, where you can go on underground tours, eat a little restaurants and shop in unique stores. Of course there’s a Starbucks and even a chocolate shop and toy store.  Don’t come downtown if you don’t like a melting pot of culture, race, entertainment and the mentally ill.
